Evidence of Being

It had been a stellar sneak-peek into spring all weekend. Sunday rolled around, and the ever present litany of tasks began to call for my attention. I thought I had moved past living by my 'to do' list. Yet sometimes it returned to lure me back into a state of stress and hamster wheel living. I was stronger.

It was so warm (after routine 20 degree temperatures) that sleeveless arms felt exposed but 'right'. Spontaneity became the rule of the day, and I grabbed Courtney for a run to get a pedicure. Never mind that we'll have another month at least, where bare toes will have to remain swathed. Today they were getting the royal treatment. Her face lit up at the suggestion.

Later I took a stroll with Maggie. I welcomed the idea of taking her out without having to layer fifteen different items of clothing and she welcomed not having to wait for me to layer. We took our time and I relished wearing my favorite things - jeans, t-shirt and flip flops, as well as the sound of life finally taking hold of the outside world. We didn't rush. If she wanted to stop and sniff every branch and shrub along the way, we stopped. We had just spent three months hurrying in and out to escape the cold. Today we could bask.

Evening approached and I had to run out to take the kids to their small groups. Maggie tagged along and we took the long way home. On a whim, coming down the road near my subdivision I realized that I would pass the perfect spot, at the perfect time to watch the sun go down. So we did. I pulled over on the side of the road and crawled up through the sunroof, the beats of the music following close behind me. I tried to get Maggie to come too, but she preferred watching from the safety of the inside.

So, if you just need a second to slow down, if you just need a minute to 'be', not do, slide through these pictures and marvel in the wonder of it all.

I love the way it looks like the sun is setting the trees on fire just before it begins to slide behind them all.

I couldn't resist this shot - new pedicure with the sunset reflected off the windshield.

In keeping with some wise words once spoken "Scenery's nice, but put some people in it" - here I am, watching the sun go down.

Just a peek of sun left

So peaceful

Just be
