Chowhound of Chastisement

I know that we go through seasons.  I know that we can be guaranteed turbulent seas,
and mismatched socks,
uneven bangs and schedules gone awry.

I must be one who fancies self-inflicted welts.

Trying to launch a business + work full-time + exist?

Seriously.

Send a life boat.  Send a rope.  Send wine.  Sweet nothings.  Words that get you down from ledges.

Send something.

Sheesh.

Gonna Learn Me Only, Hopefully

Lyricists have me captive.  Two such belong to Penny & Sparrow.

Finery ~Penny & Sparrow
it’s what i know you’re clothed in only sunlight and your flesh
so i bring the breeze in and the need to close up all the rest
your shoulders shown, your makeups thick until there’s nothing left
i still see you, still see you
you’re gonna learn me, you’re gonna learn me only, hopefully
don’t fold your hands and go to sleep
you’re going hungry, you never need me, only need be
you’re wearing empty dressed up finery
hush your blush and cover up this worry on your face
cultures captive, blessed men believe in awful things
you’re dancing ’till your feet both bleed & i wanna hear you sing
i still see you, still see you
you’re gonna learn me, you’re gonna learn me only, hopefully
don’t fold your hands and go to sleep
you’re going hungry, you never need me, only need be
you’re wearing empty dressed up finery
you’re gonna learn me, you’re gonna learn me only, hopefully
don’t fold your hands and go to sleep
you’re going hungry, you never need me, only need be
you’re wearing empty dressed up finery

Wear the ring, the clothes They're gifts for you to have, to hold, to know Even in the end you're my own Ways to want may go Won't become the ones that they don't know It's gold, you're coming home You're gonna learn me, you're gonna learn me only, hopefully Don't fold your hands and go to sleep You're going hungry, you never need be, only needing me You're wearing empty, dressed-up finery You're wearing empty, dressed-up finery You're wearing empty, dressed-up finery

to be told....
"I still see you"

Stylin' Like a Boss

I thought I would share a snapshot of my marathon weekend doing all things wedding.  I have plunged into this profession like Lady Gaga off the top of the stadium.  I had a wedding south of Atlanta on Saturday and then a styled shoot all day Sunday.  Was on my feet for 13+ hours each day (at least) and loved.every.minute.

This was a shot I didn't know was being taken while I styled a set up for a sunset shoot to capture the lighting and the mountains.

Also you must take note of my nifty leather toolbelt.  I am obsessed with tools and having my own, so have started the collection. Now I carry anything from hammers to safety pins to fishing wire in style, harkening back to my Texas days of big belts and bigger buckles.

P.S.  This was also taken JUST before the largest balloon with all my fancy cloth strips got away.

On the Momentum of A Wave

"I am propelled forward ~ driven by my own will, led by the strength of The Hand that holds me, and set due north by the wind in my sails. "
~ Carrie Ryan

I am moving forward.

If I could find words to describe the pressing onward motion that I find myself caught up in, you might not believe me.  I think I mentioned that I did a wedding (my first full service) in early December - same weekend as finals..... let's pause an reflect on this insanity.

To protect the amoninity of my clients, this was my first full-fledged wedding outside of my daughter's (I now consider this bride my 'daughter' by "marriage" - get it? ).  I did these florals.  I designed/planned/coordinated/fire-extinquished it all.

I LOVED every single second of it.

When people would say, 'Do what you love and you'll never work a day in your life', I met the sentiment with scoff, crickets, mouth agape, puzzlement, befuddlement, discombobulation.

Snark.

'What is this foreign concept you speak of?'

Work is supposed to be hard and tedious, laborious and soul-wrenching.  It is labour - striving, toil, exertion, "sweat of the brow", drudgery, effort.

And for me, it has been largely that - those things listed above, with momentary glimpses of glory.

But then I gave an 'old flame' a chance and sparked a fire raging.

If I described the wave of momentum I am currently on in the direction that I once only dreamed possible, you just might not believe it.

I'm still in disbelief.

I am doing what is called 'soft opening' - a quiet launching of a new business that can often be far more successful than a full throttle GRAND opening.  It has its many merits and it just so happens to fit in with this tidal wave of shifting.
I did TWO weddings in the month of December - one early December and one on New Year's Eve - in Pensacola, FL.  I am now actively searching real estate there.  I'm smitten.  It might just be a branch in the series of 'next steps'.

Do you SEE this above?  A ceremony at the national seashore.

How?  How was I granted such favor to be at the helm of such an amazing endeavor?  Would you just LOOK at the colors?  The composition?  The rolling of sky and cloud and wave and sand?

Prayer stayed the swelling girth of those heavy clouds.

As rain drops spurted across forehead and lip, I lifted my face to that indignant sky, and prayed to the One that can hold back the heavens;  requests carried straight on in the winds of the waves to the One who directs it all.

The result:  an absolutely STUNNING beach wedding in December.

2017

Greetings from this exhausted but smiling traveler of this crazy road of life.  How have you been?

This isn't necessarily an "I'm back!!" post, or a "New Year, New Me!" or anything like that, although this particular new year I feel I have an overload of things I want/need to do.  Some years I'm more 'Meh' but this year feels like a turning point of sorts.  We shall see...

No.  I'm here basically because it is getting ready to snow, and I had great tunes on loud and I felt inspired to write a brief 'hello'.  If you get a chance, check out William Wild.  Perfect music for a chill kind of afternoon, or a night where silent snow drifts out the window.

Current song on repeat:
Dreamin'

Here's to more tunes, more chill and much more love.
